CloudNC Brings AI-Powered CAM Assist to GibbsCAM
The integration makes CAM Assist available as an AI-enabled add-on within the GibbsCAM workflow. It is designed to generate machining strategies and toolpaths for 3-axis and 3+2-axis CNC machines, reducing the amount of manual programming required for both routine production work and more geometrically complex components.
CAM Assist uses AI and computational techniques to analyze parts and propose machining strategies automatically. Depending on component complexity, strategies that could traditionally require hours of manual programming can be generated considerably faster, allowing CNC programmers to concentrate on higher-value decisions and production tasks.
For machine shops, reducing CAM programming time can help address one of the common bottlenecks in CNC production. Faster programming can shorten preparation times for new jobs, while quicker estimation of programming requirements can also help manufacturers respond to more quotation requests.
The GibbsCAM integration includes access to CAM Assist 2.0, which introduces additional controls intended to give programmers greater visibility into AI-generated machining decisions. Users can configure machine parameters, materials and tool assemblies, evaluate components before programming, and review recommendations as CAM Assist develops the machining strategy.
A central feature of the updated system is the Strategy Editor. It allows programmers to inspect, modify and approve proposed machining strategies before the resulting operations are returned to GibbsCAM. The workflow combines automated strategy generation with human oversight rather than removing the programmer from the process.
CloudNC positions the integration as a way for GibbsCAM users to automate repetitive elements of CAM programming without abandoning their existing software environment. GibbsCAM, part of Sandvik, is used by manufacturers to program CNC machine tools across a range of production and complex machining applications.
The expansion also increases the number of CAM platforms supported by CAM Assist as CloudNC continues to broaden the availability of its manufacturing AI technology. According to the company, CAM Assist is already used by more than 1,000 machine shops worldwide.
CAM Assist for GibbsCAM became available on August 4, 2026, through CloudNC and GibbsCAM's reseller network.
