Hexagon unveils EDGECAM 2025.1 with smarter automation, advanced finishing cycles, enhanced simulation and secure cloud connectivity

Hexagon’s latest release, EDGECAM 2025.1, introduces a comprehensive suite of enhancements across milling, turning, wire EDM and multi‑axis machining. The update is aimed at improving programming speed, precision, toolpath optimization and secure team collaboration.

Key Feature Highlights:
  • Smarter Automation: The Technology Assistant now incorporates turning‑depth data, while PCI‑driven Five‑Axis strategies improve consistency and speed.
  • Race Line Finishing Cycle: A new intelligent milling cycle automatically calculates the fastest toolpath across complex profiles, with start‑side control, face/edge selection, fixture and stock awareness to reduce machining time.
  • Enhanced Simulation: Mesh‑based comparison mode lets users rotate and zoom during verification without recomputing, offering faster and more visual inspection of toolpaths.
  • Improved 5‑Axis Functionality: New capabilities include Auto Lead‑Type, Flowline strategy, trimmed line ramps, fade‑lead transitions, and floor‑parallel patterns for wall finishing — all aimed at smoother surface quality and optimized motions.
  • Milling Enhancements: The Parallel Lace cycle now features fine “Point Distribution” controls for better surface finish, and the Roughing cycle allows prioritization of intermediate passes for more efficient tool usage on complex parts.
  • Turning Updates: The software now automatically adjusts for tool nose radius in parting‑off cycles, supports B‑axis contouring on mill‑turn machines, and introduces depth‑of‑cut technology for more adaptive turning strategies.
  • Wire EDM Enhancements: Tagging options now include triangular attachments and flexible tag‑removal methods, improving slug retention control during cutting cycles.
User Interface & Toolstore Upgrades:
  • The ToolStore now runs on Microsoft SQL Server 2022 with support for TLS 1.3 encryption, enhancing data security and performance.
  • Users can now label and comment on stock components, while simulation settings like instruction highlighting and fixture reporting are preserved with the part or session.
Additional refinements:
  • Removal of legacy probing controls, ending support for Windows 10 installations post‑October 2025, enhanced fixture information exportation via the Code Generator, support for new tool types (Taper Barrel & Lens), and support for Tombstone setups via PCI‑JavaScript.
Upgrade Notes
  • Users require maintenance expiry through March 2025 or later to run 2025.1.
  • Full documentation of resolved issues is available in the EDGECAM Maintenance Database Report.
